How to Choose a Reputable Contractor
- Get referrals from friends.
- Make sure contractor is licensed, bonded (insures work will be completed), insured (covers property damage) and has worker's compensation (covers employee on the job injuries).
- Make sure contractor is in good standing with the California State License Board (http://www.cslb.ca.gov)
- Interview contractor (show them what work you intend to have done and ask for references).
- When deciding on a contractor, trust your intuition; were they responsive to your calls and questions? Did they show up on time to appointments? Will you be able to work with them for an extended period of time? Did they listen to your needs and wants? Did they follow through with their commitments? Can you see yourself doing business with this company in the future?
- Find out what their guarantee policy is.
